When a natural disaster affects a school, the real concern is not only the damage to the building. It is the disruption to the education of our children.
Following the recent windstorm that ripped off the roofs of two basic school blocks in Builsa North, I have taken steps to ensure that the affected pupils can return to safe and conducive classrooms as quickly as possible.
The affected schools are Achan Yeri Goayie Primary School at Chuchuliga and Yikpien Junior High School at Siniensi.
I have therefore released GH¢32,526.80 from the MP’s Common Fund to fully finance the re-roofing of the two affected school blocks.
The important thing for me was that we did not allow the situation to linger.
Work has already commenced.
Engineers and carpenters from the Builsa North Municipal Assembly are currently working at Achan Yeri Goayie Primary School. Once that work is completed, the team will proceed immediately to Yikpien JHS at Siniensi.
On my behalf, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Akogti Ansoabayie, has also engaged the chiefs, teachers and community members of Achan Yeri Goayie to explain the intervention and assure them that every effort is being made to complete the work promptly.
Our Children Must Be Able to Learn
Education has always occupied an important place in my work as Member of Parliament for Builsa North.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe, dignified and conducive to learning.
A windstorm is beyond anyone’s control. What is within our control is how quickly and effectively we respond when such events occur.
For the children affected, every day outside the classroom matters.
That is why I believe our response must be practical and timely. We must repair the damaged structures, restore the classrooms and allow teaching and learning to continue with as little disruption as possible.
Working Together for Builsa North
I am grateful to the Builsa North Municipal Assembly for responding quickly and working with my office to undertake the repairs.
I also appreciate the patience and cooperation of our teachers, chiefs, parents and community members while the work is being carried out.
This is how I believe we should approach the development of Builsa North: identify the problem, work together and act.
Whether the challenge concerns education, healthcare, security, infrastructure or another aspect of community life, our people expect us to find practical solutions.
I remain committed to doing my part.
No child in Builsa North should have his or her education unnecessarily interrupted because a school building has been damaged.
We will restore these classrooms.
We will get our children back to learning.
And, as always, we will do it together.
